The Social Security Administration announced that an additional 35 Compassionate Allowances are now in effect, bringing the total number of these expedited conditions to 200. What does this mean? It means that for those disabled Americans with the most serious impairments, their disability decisions could potentially be “fast-tracked” so that they receive their benefits within days instead of months or years. These conditions primarily include certain cancers, adult brain disorders, and a number of rare disorders affecting children.
By definition, these conditions are so severe that SSA does not need to fully develop the claimant’s work history in order to make a decision.
