Providing Service Dogs For Veterans
Having participated in seven USO tours, including four to Iraq and Afghanistan, Senator Al Franken (D-MN) is a strong advocate for veterans and believes we have an obligation to the brave men and women who have risked so much to keep us safe. One of Senator Franken’s proudest achievements in the Senate was the passage of his first bill, the Service Dogs for Veterans Act (S.1495), which was signed into law on October 22, 2009. The bill creates a pilot program to evaluate the benefits of using dogs to help treat veterans with physical or mental injuries.
