Will advise OPM Director on ways to improve hiring outreach to the Hispanic community

Washington, DC – The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) launched the Hispanic Council on Federal Employment to advise the Director of OPM on leading employment practices and recommendations for use by all agencies. The Council members include representatives from various Hispanic organizations and Federal agencies that have experience in working on issues affecting Hispanic communities.

“OPM must ensure the Federal government recruits and retains the best and the brightest from every American community,” said OPM Director John Berry. “I look forward to this council’s work in helping us further these efforts.”

Specifically, the Council will:

· provide advice on ways to improve and increase outreach to Hispanic communities;

· recommend further actions to address the underrepresentation of Hispanics in the Federal workforce where it occurs;

· recommend ways to promote successful retention and advancement efforts;

· help the Federal government be innovative in its communication regarding Federal employment to Hispanic communities.

The Council is being co-chaired by OPM Chief of Staff Elizabeth Montoya and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Assistant Secretary of Administration and Human Resources John U. Sepúlveda. OPM’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion will be staffing and supporting the Council.

The Council was created in accordance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA).
