Attorney General Eric Schneiderman launched a new website, “Share Your I-STOP Story,” which does just that – shares stories from New Yorkers who have been personally affected by the growing epidemic of prescription drug abuse. Mr. Schneiderman is hoping the site will persuade NY legislators to take some action.
He has proposed the I-Stop bill, which establishes an online database to report and track the prescribing and dispensing of specific narcotics. While the system allows medical professionals to prescribe these drugs to those who need them, it also allows medical professionals to detect potentially dangerous drug interactions; identify patterns of abuse by patients, doctors and pharmacists; help those who suffer from crippling addictions; and hopefully, prevent potential addiction. Similar programs already exist in 43 states.
