As cutting Saturday mail service seems to becoming closer to a reality, the unions (and the public) have voiced their opposition to this plan. NALC President Fredric Rolando called the measure “both unnecessary and counter-productive.” He urged USPS to put this “drastic” idea on hold until all other options are seriously considered.
Says Rolando, “I do not believe that weakening our commitment of six-day service to the public will enhance the long-term position of the Postal Service as a critical element in our nation’s economic infrastructure.”
Instead, Rolando believes that Congress should get involved and reimburse the USPS for the $75 billion in pension overcharges.
