Attorney General, Eric Holder and Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius have announced a partnership between federal and state officials, as well as several private health insurers to prevent health care fraud. The effort is voluntary and represents the Administration’s next steps in fighting fraud and saving taxpayers significant dollars.
This new partnership has been crafted to share information and best practices in order to improve detection and prevent payment of fraudulent health care billings. The intention is to reveal and put a stop to scams that affect public and private payers. It will enable those on the front line of industry anti-fraud efforts to communicate with investigators, prosecutors, policymakers and others. Also, it will assist law enforcement in better identifying and preventing suspicious activities, better protect patients’ confidential information and use the full range of tolls and authorities provided by the Affordable Care Act and other statutes to fight and prosecute fraudulent actions.
